Beamish Activities
Our evening Activity program is designed for children with ASD and other behavioural challenges in a supportive, structured, and encouraging environment. Children will be divided into groups based on age, ability level, and individual needs to help ensure they feel comfortable, included, and successful.
Through fun sports, movement activities, teamwork, and skill-building games, participants will have the opportunity to improve confidence, coordination, social interaction, and physical fitness at their own pace. Our goal is to create a positive experience where every child can participate, build friendships, and enjoy being active.

Benefits and Methods
Our evening sports program is designed for children with ASD and other behavioural challenges who would benefit from a structured, supportive, and positive physical activity environment. The program gives children the opportunity to participate in sports, movement games, and skill-building activities at a pace that matches their age, ability level, confidence, and individual needs.
Research supports the importance of regular physical activity for children’s overall development. The CDC notes that physical activity can support children’s brain health, physical fitness, heart and lung health, bone strength, healthy weight, and academic performance. Research specific to children and adolescents with ASD also suggests that regular exercise can have positive benefits, especially in areas such as social skills, motor development, coordination, behaviour, and cognitive control.
Benefits of the Program
Children in the program will have the opportunity to improve coordination, balance, strength, focus, confidence, and overall fitness through fun and age-appropriate movement activities. Sports can also provide a healthy outlet for energy, reduce stress, and support emotional regulation. For children who may struggle in traditional sports settings, this program is designed to reduce pressure and increase success.
The program also helps children practise important social and behavioural skills in a natural setting. These may include taking turns, following instructions, waiting, sharing space, working with teammates, managing frustration, and celebrating the success of others. By participating in activities that are adapted to their needs, children can build confidence, experience success, and develop a more positive relationship with physical activity.
Program Methods
Children will be divided into small groups based on age, ability level, and individual needs. This allows staff to provide the right level of support, challenge, and encouragement for each child. Activities will be adapted so that every child can participate meaningfully, whether they are developing basic movement skills or ready for more advanced group games.
The program will use clear routines, simple instructions, visual demonstrations, repetition, and positive reinforcement. Staff will focus on patience, consistency, encouragement, and helping each child feel safe and successful. Activities may include running, throwing, catching, kicking, obstacle courses, relay games, cooperative games, and modified sports.
The goal is not competition, but participation, growth, confidence, and enjoyment. Our aim is to create a welcoming program where children with ASD and other behavioural challenges can be active, build friendships, develop new skills, and feel proud of their progress.
